Do those two words ring a bell? It seems everyone is concerned about race relations. The cry against injustice gets louder each day. Abuse of civil rights is all we hear. We live in an unfair society. I guess we could go on and on and still not fix the problem.
Today I would like to change the subject just a little bit. Most of us are so focused on the natural race that we have diluted the importance of our spiritual race. In the natural you are going to have problems with those who are participating in the race. Often times you don’t know them and sometimes you may not like them but your goal is to win. You do what it takes to be a winner. Hopefully you maintain honest and practical means to do so.
Most athletes seek out a good coach to ensure the training they receive will be the best and most profitable to them. In our race for eternal life we have been afforded the opportunity to have the very best coach one could possibility hope for. Jesus has already run this race and He knows everything about it. But just like when you are engaged with a natural coach you”ll need to learn how to read the instruction manual and listen to your trainer. And apply the advice to your life.
So I wouldn’t be overly concerned about race relations. That particular problem will never be solved until those who are prejudice act like an alcoholic and honestly admit and say to themselves-I am prejudice. And ask God to fill their hearts with love instead of tolerance for each other. At that point change will happen. I find pleasure in knowing that I am equal to all through Jesus Christ.
Because of Jesus I am the head and not the tail. If I choose to sit in the front of the bus and not the back of the bus I can. He overcame extreme prejudice and adversity and we who know Him, can do likewise.
I encourage you today to get a tight grip on the knowledge of who you are and who you can become in Christ. Your relation with Jesus should be your priority. I believe if you put as much effort into building that relationship as you do in worrying about race relations you benefit in the end. And remember, it is the end that you must be concerned about.
Ecclesiastes 9:11 eludes to the fact that the race is not to the swift nor to mighty but to the one who endures to the end. Never forget that Jesus has the best endurance plan ever devised and it’s yours for the asking.
I hope you have a strong finish.
