Let’s take a close look at the tentacle that I can only describe as the most devastating one. This one reaches out and takes the life of those who are passengers in the car and the drunk driver escapes unharmed! How do live with that. At this point you as a bartender and the driver should feel deep remorse. But do you? I hope so. I hope you feel it deep enough to bring about some change in your life.

My family experienced the pain my dad lived with after he and a friend had a very serious accident.
One night the two of them left that very same bar I mentioned before. They were traveling those same dark, winding roads; all of a sudden my dad lost control of the truck. They went over a hill and as the truck toppled over, his friend who had his arm hanging out the window was hurt so badly that the doctors had to amputate his arm. Every time my dad saw his friend, can you imagine how he felt.

The octopus is a warlike creature and so is the demonic spirit of alcohol. It goes against everything you have.It rips up whatever’s in it’s path. It has no boundaries. It starts in your mind knowing full well that if he conquers your thought pattern, he’s got you.

Some of the most horrible crimes have been committed by intoxicated individuals. Statistics show some starling information, such as drunk drivers continue to drive despite penalties.
Young drinkers are more likely to turn into drinking drivers.
Teens make up 6,000 people who die each year due to alcohol. This number makes for more deaths than all teen illegal drug deaths combined.

When I was prompted to use the octopus as my example I didn’t realize some of the characteristics it has and how much they line up with what I’m trying to convey.

I found an interesting connection in Greek mythology. The Gorgon of Greek mythology has been inspired by the octopus or squid, the octopus itself representing the severed head of Medusa, the beak as the protruding tongue and fangs, and its tentacles as the snakes.

So as I do my comparison to the spirit of alcohol this is what I can gather, just as a means of causing someone to open their eyes to the truth of how dangerous it is to embrace alcohol and call it your friend.

The severed head of Medusa could easily represent how alcohol severs your head, creating brain fog, removes you from your ability to reason, opens up the door for satin himself to come in with a flood of foolishness.
Crazy, vicious, actions are manifested. That tongue and fangs could easily represent the ugly, vulgar, hurtful language that protrudes out of your mouth. The snakes speak for themselves. Each snakes represent one of
Satan’s devices, poised and ready to strike.

In the book of Proverbs Chapter 12:verse 1 reminds us that “Whosoever loves instruction loves knowledge; but he that hates reproof is brutish,” Chapter 13:15 “Good understanding gives favor; but the way of transgressors is hard”.
The next time you enter a bar; whether it be as a customer or a bartender, please ask yourself this question.
Since wine is a mocker and strong drink is raging; and whosoever is deceived by it is not wise, what is the wise thing to do? Give in or get out?

One more truth about what drinking does to you. If you are a bartender you’ll know what I’m talking about. Proverbs 23:29. Who has woe? who has sorrow? who has contention? who has babbling? who has wounds without cause? who has redness of eyes? That sad customer.B
They that tarry long at the wine, they that go to seek mixed drink. Look not upon the wine when it is red, when it gives color in the cup, when it moves itself around. At last it bites like a serpent, and stings like an adder (poisonous) snake. That same scripture makes reference to how a drunkard may feel like he’s been dropped off the mast of a great boat into the sea, beaten, sick at his stomach and rise up not really knowing what all happened and go right back and seek it again. Do you really want to be a part of all of this? Unless you are in self denial, you already are.
